Striving for Exuberance
An awesome mini-convo with Jean over Twitter.

Jeryes: I said outloud that I’m going to marry a hockey player, and my friend says that you are not allowed to be openly gay in the NHL. That true?

vickiemarquez: @Jeryes Nooooo… Really?! I’ve never really thought about it…Investigating!

vickiemarquez: @Jeryes Apparently, there’s no LEGAL documentation saying a player cannot be openly gay, but it’s a hotly debated topic.

vickiemarquez: @Jeryes Even in Canada, where same-sex marriage and such are welcome and accepted, the subject of a gay NHLer makes everyone tight-lipped.

Jeryes: @vickiemarquez That is so crazy! I really wanna marry an NHL player though. :-(

Seriously, the issue of open homosexuality and professional sports is a majorly hushed topic, even beyond the NHL. People probably don’t even realize the gravity of the situation because organizations and rich, influential people of the leagues spend so much money to keep the media out of it.
